COMMUNITY ALERT REGARDING THREATS TO SCHOOLS

The Inglewood Police Department received information regarding a potential threat to school children. The threats, and the suspect who made them, were the subject of a County-Wide law enforcement advisory bulletin sent by the Inglewood Police Department on May 7, 2013, to all law enforcement agencies, including agencies responsible for policing school campuses in the greater Los Angeles area.

Search For Missing Woman

On Sunday, April 21, 2013, the Inglewood Police Department is stepping up their efforts in the search for a 76-year-old female missing since Friday evening. Bettye Dorris Kimble, age 76, of Inglewood was last seen at her home near 80th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard in Inglewood.

SUSPECT SOUGHT IN CONNECTION WITH ATM ROBBERIES

The Inglewood Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in connection with a series of ATM robberies. In each of the robberies, the suspect has targeted lone female victims using the Bank of America ATM located at 330 E. Manchester Boulevard in the City of Inglewood. Inglewood detectives are currently investigating five such cases.

THE INGLEWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT TO COMBAT ROADWAY DEATHS AND INJURIES WITH DUI CHECKPOINTS

The Inglewood Police Department has been awarded a new traffic safety grant for an anti-DUI program aimed at preventing deaths and injuries on our roadways. Additional enforcement measures to combat impaired driving are coming as a result of a recent $83,000 grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety to the Inglewood Police Department.

Mark Fronterotta Selected as Chief

The City of Inglewood announces that Interim Chief Mark Fronterotta has been selected by the City Council to become Inglewood’s 17th Police Chief. Fronterotta was appointed Interim Chief of Police in June 2012, and he has been running the agency during the selection process. Following a nationwide recruitment process in an effort to attract top candidates that lasted several months, Fronterotta’s selection was confirmed during a City Council meeting on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.

On Thursday, November 29, 2012, at approximately 6:33 PM, Inglewood police officers responded to a radio call of ten shots heard and a window breaking in the 900 block of W. Beach Ave. Officers arrived on scene and located a shooting victim lying on the ground, suffering from gunshot wounds to his torso.

SUSPECT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER STANDOFF

A 22-year-old man was taken into custody by the Inglewood Police Department after a two-hour standoff. The incident began at approximately 11:00 a.m. (November 20, 2012) when Inglewood Police were called to the 500 block of E. Arbor Vitae Street regarding an armed man at the scene. The suspect pointed a gun at the officers who were on scene and an officer involved shooting occurred.

LAMAS FAMILY DONATION FUND

On Saturday, October 20, 2012, members of the Lamas family were tragically gunned down in their home in the City of Inglewood. The father, Filimon Lamas, and his four-year old son were killed. Three other family members were also struck by gunfire and critically injured as a result.

HOMICIDE – FIVE SHOOTING VICTIMS / TWO DECEASED

On Saturday, October 20, 2012, at approximately 4:00 AM, Inglewood police officers were called to the 4900 block of W. 99th Street regarding a report of 10 gunshots heard at that location. The Los Angeles County Fire Department received a simultaneous call of a structure fire at the location. Inglewood Police personnel located five shooting victims in the front house and observed that the rear house on the same property was fully engulfed in flames. It is believed that the suspect started the structure fire in the rear house.

On Sunday, September 30, 2012 at approximately 10:25 PM, an Inglewood Police Officer was shot during a traffic stop on 113th Street near Crenshaw Boulevard. The incident began when Inglewood Police Officers Benjamin Sanza (Age 26 / 5-year veteran) and Andrew Tachias (Age 26 / 2-year veteran) made a traffic stop of a silver 2008 Chevrolet Impala.

On Saturday, June 16, 2012, at approximately 8:05 pm, Inglewood officers responded to a radio call of a shooting victim in the 800 block of W. Beach Ave. When officers arrived on scene they found two shooting victims in front of an apartment complex. Both shooting victims were suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

On Friday, May 25, 2012, at approximately 11:07 pm, Inglewood officers responded to a radio call of a shooting victim in the 2400 block of W. 81st Street. When officers arrived on scene they found the victim lying in the middle of the street.

HOMICIDE

On Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at approximately 2:41pm, Inglewood officers responded to a radio call regarding a stabbing victim in the 900 Block of East Fairview Ave, in the City of Inglewood. When officers arrived on scene they discovered a victim who had been stabbed in the upper torso. The victim subsequently succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was pronounced deceased by emergency medical personnel. During a search of the immediate area, officers located and arrested a possible suspect who was hiding nearby.

Anyone who was in the area and has information concerning this incident is asked to call the Inglewood Police Homicide Section at (310) 412-5246, or the 24-hour anonymous hotline number “888-41-CRIME” (888-412-7463).

INGLEWOOD BIDS FAREWELL TO CHIEF SEABROOKS

The Inglewood Police Department has organized a farewell celebration for outgoing Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks. The event will be open to the community and held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 between noon and 4:00 p.m. on the north outdoor mall area of City Hall at Grevillea and Regent Streets. In April, Chief Seabrooks announced her impending departure to accept a position as Santa Monica’s police chief. Her last day as Inglewood’s top cop will be May 25th. The City has not yet named an interim chief to replace Seabrooks.

INGLEWOOD MURDER SUSPECT BROUGHT TO JUSTICE

A 17-year murder investigation culminated in the conviction of an Inglewood man accused of killing his wife in 1994. On Friday, April 13, 2012, a jury found Andre Jackson, 46, guilty of first-degree murder for the strangulation death of his wife Marie Singleton-Jackson. Marie was a 33-year-old mother of two boys.

INLEWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT REQUESTS ASSISTANCE ON TAYLOR HOMICIDE

On 12/11/10 at 4:43 pm, a shooting occurred at 400 W. Beach Ave. (Rogers Park) in the city of Inglewood. A male suspect was walking through the parking lot when he began shooting at a 16 year old male juvenile. The intended victim avoided the gunfire and sought cover behind a parked vehicle. During the shooting, a 15 year juvenile standing in the area, was struck by a stray bullet in the arm. Gwendolyn Jefferson Taylor was also in the area holding her grandchild when she was struck by the gunfire and died as a result of her injuries.

Family and friends of Inglewood homicide victim Gwendolyn Jefferson Taylor have organized a prayer vigil at Rogers Park in Inglewood on Thursday, February 23rd at 6:00 PM. Ms. Taylor died at this same site on Saturday, December 11, 2010 after suffering a gunshot wound while attending an event with her family.

An Inglewood Police Department sergeant with 14 years of experience was involved in a shooting after confronting two possible burglary suspects. to Raise Awareness of Teen Dating Violence Issues

The Inglewood Police Department has forged a partnership with the Positive Results Corporation to raise awareness and support programs in connection with Teen Dating Violence. Representatives from the Inglewood Police Department and Positive Results will be appearing before the Inglewood City Council on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, to address the Council on this important issue. The City Council will be presenting a proclamation declaring February 2012 as ‘‘Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month’’ in the City of Inglewood.

Murder Reward

The City of Inglewood has offered a reward in the amount of $25,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and prosecution of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Monte Ray Talbert. Talbert was known to many as “M-Bone,” member of the music group “Cali Swag District.” Talbert died on Sunday, May 15, 2011 after suffering gunshot wounds in the 400 block of North LaBrea Avenue in Inglewood.

The suspect(s) in this homicide remain at-large and the Police Department is seeking the Community’s assistance in finding those responsible for Mr. Talbert’s death. On Friday January 20, 2012, Inglewood Police Department personnel and Talbert’s family will be in the distributing flyers in an effort to solicit information regarding the crime. Inglewood Police Officer Witness to Fatal collision

An Inglewood police officer stopped at the intersection of Century Boulevard and Club Drive observed a single car traffic collision that resulted in a fatality. The incident began on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 2:30 AM, when Michael Edward Ferguson, 25, of Los Angeles, approached the intersection west on Century at a high rate of speed. After Ferguson failed to stop for the red traffic signal, his vehicle skidded out of control and struck a light pole.

Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics pronounced Ferguson dead at the scene.

Murder Suspect Captured

Members of the Inglewood Police Department and the U.S. Marshal’s Service, Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force located a man wanted in connection with a 2010 murder in Inglewood. The suspect, identified as Antwuan Marquis Giddens (DOB 1/17/85), was discovered during a surveillance operation by the task force, which includes personnel assigned from the Inglewood Police Department.

The Inglewood Police Athletic League (IPAL) and Loyola Marymount University team up to present the 2nd annual Funky Fresh Fashion Show, with all proceeds going to support IPAL. Double Suicide Poses Public Safety Threat

The Inglewood Police Department responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the parking structure near Locust Street and Manchester Boulevard. Arriving officers found two deceased men who apparently committed suicide by releasing toxic chemicals inside their vehicle.

Natural Gas Leak Forces Evacuation

The Inglewood Police Department responded to reports of a natural gas and water leak at 10111 S. England Avenue this morning. The leak necessitated the evacuation of residents from seven apartment buildings on the block. The incident began at 7:20 AM on Tuesday, December 13, 2011.

Murder Reward

Missing Elderly Inglewood Resident

On Thursday, November 17, 2011, Inglewood Police have increased their efforts in the search for an elderly man missing since Monday. Lyman Edwards, age 86 of Inglewood was last seen driving his car away from his daughter's home in Los Angeles. Diane Edwards-Oates reported her father missing to the Los Angeles Police Department on Tuesday.

Officer Injured in Traffic Collision with Shooting Victim

On Wednesday, November 2, 2011, an Inglewood police officer was injured in a traffic collision at Florence Avenue and Eucalyptus Avenue. The collision occurred at approximately 2:30 PM, when the officer was in the left turn lane to turn from east bound Florence to north bound Eucalyptus.

Homicide

On Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at approximately 5:30 pm, Inglewood officers responded to a radio call regarding suspicious circumstances in the 8400 Block of Crenshaw Dr, in the City of Inglewood. When officers arrived on scene they discovered a deceased victim inside the residence. Preliminary findings have determined that foul play is involved, but the cause of death is unknown at this time.

Inglewood Police Seize Large Quantity of Drugs and Money

On October 20, 2011, Inglewood Narcotics Investigators conducted an investigation that resulted in the arrest of two men for narcotics trafficking. Detectives seized 35 pounds of methamphetamine “ice” and $54,000.00 cash. The methamphetamine has a street value of 1.7 million dollars.

U.S. Department of Justice Grant Approved – Police Layoffs Averted

The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) announced today that the grant application submitted by the City of Inglewood has been approved. Due to the City’s current fiscal crisis, the Inglewood Police Department was faced with the potential layoff of eight police officers; the lay-offs were scheduled to take effect on November 5th.

Homicide

On Sunday, September 20, 2009, at 8:04 P.M., Inglewood Officers were dispatched to a radio call of a “shooting victim” in the 3300 block of West 118th Place. When officers arrived on scene they found the victim, Kevin Harris II, suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Fatal Traffic Collision

On Sunday, September 18, 2011, at approximately 2:34 PM, Inglewood Police officers responded to 3321 W. Century Boulevard “El Super Market” to investigate a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers found the pedestrian had sustained severe trauma to the upper torso and one of the vehicles involved had left the scene.

Utility Theft Suspects Electrocuted

On Friday September 16th, 2011, officers from the Inglewood Police Department responded to 4338 W. 101st Street regarding an electrical transformer that was producing sparks. When the officers arrived they observed fire associated to the transformer at 10024 S. Hawthorne Boulevard and fire at the base of the power pole. Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were also dispatched to the incident.

Don't Become a Robbery Victim

A series of street robberies involving gold necklaces, and cell phones, has been occurring in your area. The suspects approach victims on foot, bicycle, or from a vehicle before grabbing their necklaces. The jewelry worn, or cell phone being used, was normally exposed and visible from a distance.

A 57-year-old Los Angeles man was stabbed on an MTA bus in Inglewood.

Arrest in Robery String

On Friday, September 9, 2011, at approximately 12:45 PM, Inglewood police officers arrested an 18-year-old Inglewood man for robbery after he forcibly took a gold necklace from a 59-year-old woman. The robbery was part of a pattern of snatch-and-grab thefts of gold necklaces that had been occurring in Inglewood and throughout Los Angeles County this year. Law enforcement officials surmise that the robberies are the result of skyrocketing gold prices.

The Inglewood Police Department completed its final assessment of crime statistics for 2010. Overall reported Part 1 crimes in 2010 were the lowest number in 32 years. The total represents a 14% decrease compared to 2009.

Major Injury Traffic Collisions

On April 23, 2011, at approximately 4:19 AM, Inglewood Police Officers were dispatched to a traffic collision in the 10200 Block of Freeman Avenue involving a vehicle that struck palm tree. Upon arrival, officers determined that a 7 year old child in the vehicle sustained major head trauma. Los Angeles County Fire Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the child to Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center for treatment.

On Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at approximately 4:55 PM, Inglewood Officers were dispatched to Arbor Vitae and Oak Street, regarding a shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers found a male Hispanic adult, lying face down in the street. The victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his head and chest. L.A. County Paramedics treated the victim at the scene, before he succumbed to his injuries.

Fatal Traffic Collision

On March 28, 2011 at approximately 2:28 AM, Inglewood Police Officers were in the area of Centinela Avenue and Florence Avenue when they heard a traffic collision. Officers searched the area and found that a Toyota Camry traveling south on Centinela Avenue rear ended a Chevrolet SUV that was stopped for a red signal light at Florence Avenue.

On February 24, 2011, Inglewood Police Department Narcotic Detectives initiated an investigation into an illegal marijuana cultivation operation. The investigation led detectives to a residence in the 2900 block of west Ardmore Street, South Gate where detectives served a search.

ARREST MADE IN 15 YEAR OLD COLD HOMICIDE CASE

On Thursday, May 6, 2010, Inglewood Police detectives arrested Donald Bridgewater for the October 28, 1995, murder of William Goins. This cold case was one of several hundred being reviewed by the Inglewood Police Department’s Cold Case Unit and marks the first arrest as a result of the unit’s investigative work in a re-opened homicide case.

On Saturday, August 31, 2008, at approximately 1:47 pm, Inglewood officers were dispatched to the 400 block of S. Market Street regarding a man with a gun. The caller described the subject as a Male, White and provided a clothing description of the subject as well as his direction of travel. Officers were dispatched and arrived on scene within two minutes.
