THE INGLEWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES GRANT FOR SPECIAL TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AND CRASH PREVENTION

The Inglewood Police Department has been awarded a $245.000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for a year-long program of special enforcements and public awareness efforts to prevent traffic related deaths and injuries. The Inglewood Police Department will use the funding as part of the city’s ongoing commitment to keep our roadways safe and improve the quality of life through both enforcement and education.

IPD TO COMBAT ROADWAY DEATHS AND INJURIES WITH DUI CHECKPOINTS

The Inglewood Police Department has been awarded a new traffic safety grant for an anti-DUI program aimed at preventing deaths and injuries on Inglewood roadways. Enforcement measures to combat impaired driving are coming as a result of a recent $64,725 grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety to the Inglewood Police Department. On Tuesday, October 22, 2013, the Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office notified Inglewood Police Department investigators that formal charges have been filed against Jesus Cazares, 38, of Inglewood, in connection with the fatal hit and run collision on Saturday, October 19.

Inglewood Police Dept. traffic investigators have arrested a suspect in connection with last night’s fatal hit and run traffic collision. Jesus Cazares, 38, of Inglewood was taken into custody at approximately 3:00 p.m. As a result of the new media coverage and subsequent tips received by Inglewood Police, the suspect was tentatively identified earlier today.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a female adult pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle just after loading a juvenile into a parked vehicle.

On October 8,2013, at approximately 12:51 p.m., Inglewood officers were dispatched to the 11700 block of south Crenshaw Boulevard regarding shooting victim.

HOMICIDE

On Saturday, September 21, 2013, at 2:21 p.m., Inglewood Police Officers responded to a radio call of a "shooting victim" in the 10600 block of South Crenshaw Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found two shooting victims; one female Black adult and one male Black. The female victim was identified as Pia Porter, a 30 year old Inglewood resident, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Pia Porter was pronounced deceased at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department Paramedics.

SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE SENT BY FORMER TSA EMPLOYEE

On Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 12:45 PM, Inglewood Police Department personnel were called to 733 S. Hindry Avenue regarding a suspicious package. The location is a Veteran’s Administration Facility that provides low-cost housing and social services to military veterans. A member of the V.A. staff had received a packaged that he believed may be dangerous.

The critical missing person from yesterday in the area of the Verizon Wireless store in the 3400 Block of West Century Boulevard, Ahmed Abdelwahab, has been found. Abdelwahab was located unharmed and returned to his family this afternoon.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2013 the Inglewood Police Department updated their efforts in the search for a 24-year-old missing man. The missing man’s physical description was corrected from earlier inaccurate information, and efforts to find him have been redoubled. The missing person is Ahmed Abdelwahab, of Los Angeles, was last seen in the area of the Verizon Wireless store in the 3400 Block of West Century Boulevard in the City of Inglewood.

HOMICIDE

On Saturday, July 27, 2013, at approximately 3:08 PM, Inglewood Officers were dispatched to 560 W. Olive Street, regarding a person down that was lying on the floor, unconscious and bleeding. Upon arrival, officers found a male Black adult, lying face down on the floor with apparent injuries to his face. L.A. County Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

On Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at approximately 8:50 PM, Patrol Officers were hailed by a citizen near the intersection of Hillcrest Boulevard and Oak Street. The citizen informant advised the officers that she witnessed a male Hispanic point a gun at a passing vehicle. While the officers were speaking with the citizen, she identified a male subject walking south on Oak Street as the person she saw pointing the weapon.
