"A Message from the Captain..."

Welcome to the Detective Bureau home page. The Detective Bureau is traditionally responsible for the investigation and filing of criminal complaints. Normally, a crime or arrest report is taken by patrol officers and, depending on the nature of the crime and whether there are any leads, the report is assigned to a case investigator. The investigator conducts additional follow-up inquires and determines if the crime is prosecutable. The ultimate goal is to solve the crime by arresting the perpetrator and seeing that he or she is prosecuted.

But the Detective Bureau does much more to protect the community. Detectives handle missing persons, child abuse and neglect referrals, the monitoring of state-mandated sex crime registrants, gang and other criminal intelligence issues, and the special issues surrounding juvenile crime and status offenses. The Detective Bureau also compiles statistical information on crime and crime trends in the City.

In the end, it is the goal of the Detective Bureau to provide professional service to the Inglewood community and to other professionals within the criminal justice system.
